About the operator
Vala is the mobile brand of Kosovo Telecom, the state-owned operator that grew out of the country's post and telecom administration, and it is the largest mobile network in Kosovo. It launched 4G in 2015 and, by published coverage figures, reaches about 96% of populated areas with 4G/LTE and almost everyone with 2G.
For visitors the point is the same as with any Kosovar network: Kosovo is outside the EU's roam-like-at-home zone, so a European plan that is free in neighbouring countries can bill roaming rates in Pristina. A Vala prepaid line, or a travel eSIM on the local networks, avoids that.
AviaeSIM's prepaid travel eSIM for Kosovo connects to the local networks — Vala's 4G among them — and is delivered online, so you get the incumbent's coverage without the Customer Care visit, the passport copy or a Kosovar top-up.

How to get the official Vala eSIM: price, QR code, registration
Vala issues its eSIM at Kosovo Telecom's Customer Care points of sale rather than online. A new Vala eSIM costs 10 € and comes as a starter package with 300 minutes to Vala and other operators, 300 SMS and 4 GB of data valid for 30 days; swapping an existing Vala SIM to an eSIM costs 4.00 € and requires proving ownership of the number with an identification document. In both cases you receive a QR code together with the PIN, PUK and a configuration guide — the default PIN is 0000 — and the code can be scanned five times on one device only, over Wi-Fi. A prepaid number stays active for 90 days after first use, then sits inactive for 15 days before it lapses.
AviaeSIM's prepaid travel eSIM for Kosovo runs on the local networks, Vala's 4G included, and skips the counter: buy online, receive the QR code by email in minutes, install it before departure and connect on arrival with no identification check or Kosovar top-up.

Network & technology
Vala runs 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE; the 4G layer uses the 1800 MHz band (Band 3) that virtually every European, British and Turkish phone supports, so a visitor's handset attaches without any setting change. Coverage follows the population: strong in Pristina, Prizren, Peja, Gjakova and Mitrovica and along the main roads, thinner in the mountains.
Reputation & market position
As the former monopoly, Vala still has the widest footprint and the most points of sale, and it is the default choice for residents outside the cities. Visitors tend to compare it with IPKO on price; both register prepaid lines to a passport, so the practical difference is coverage in the area you are visiting.

Frequently asked questions
Does Vala offer an eSIM in Kosovo?
Yes. Kosovo Telecom issues Vala eSIMs at its Customer Care points of sale: a new eSIM costs 10 € with 300 minutes, 300 SMS and 4 GB for 30 days, and swapping an existing SIM to eSIM costs 4 €. You receive a QR code with the PIN, PUK and a guide; it works on one device and allows five installation attempts.
How much is a Vala SIM card for tourists?
Vala's starter eSIM package is 10 €; physical starter SIMs are sold at points of sale with a first allowance, and prices change with promotions, so check kosovotelecom.com before you go. Either way the line is registered to your passport at the counter. AviaeSIM's Kosovo plans are priced per trip and need no registration.
Can I get a Vala eSIM online?
Not at the moment — Vala's page describes eSIM issue at Customer Care points, with an identification document for a swap, and offers no online purchase for visitors. If you want the eSIM before you travel, AviaeSIM sells a prepaid Kosovo eSIM online and emails the QR code within minutes.
How do I install the Vala eSIM QR code?
Connect to Wi-Fi, open Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM and scan the QR code from your Vala starter pack; enter the PIN (0000 by default) if asked. You have five attempts and the code is tied to that device. An AviaeSIM QR code installs the same way from your confirmation email.
Which is better in Kosovo, a Vala SIM or a travel eSIM?
A Vala line wins on price per gigabyte over a month and on rural coverage, at the cost of a counter visit and passport registration. A travel eSIM from AviaeSIM costs more per gigabyte but is installed before you land, has no registration and runs on the same local 4G networks — the sensible choice for a stay of a week or two.
