Jio eSIM — coverage, plans & network

Jio — Reliance Jio Infocomm — is India's largest mobile operator. It launched commercially in September 2016 with an all-4G network and free introductory data that reset the country's prices, and it has since rolled out standalone 5G across the major cities. It belongs to Reliance Industries.

For a visitor Jio is the network you will most often see at airport kiosks in Delhi and Bengaluru, but a local line comes with India's paperwork: identity verification with a passport and visa, proof of a local address, a photo taken in the store and an activation wait that can run from half an hour to a day.

That route assumes an active Jio number, and getting one as a visitor means the same in-person KYC as a physical SIM: an original passport, a valid Indian visa, proof of a local address (a hotel booking is accepted), a digital photo taken in the store, and an activation wait of thirty minutes to twenty-four hours. Jio does not publish an eSIM fee on its eSIM page; the data packs are cheap once you are through — as of August 2026, ₹198 buys 2 GB a day for 14 days, ₹349 the same for 28 days and ₹365 a 25 GB pool for 30 days. Kiosks in the arrival halls of Delhi and Bengaluru handle the paperwork on landing.
