Vodafone Italy's eSIM support page describes the mechanics: in a shop you receive a card with a QR code printed on it, online you receive an email with a personal link to activate, and the QR code can be downloaded again from the Fai da Te area of the website. To activate you show a valid identity document and the Tessera Sanitaria (the Italian tax code). Vodafone's page prints no price; Italian comparison sites quote €1 for the eSIM with a new activation and €10 for an existing customer switching, and note that a prepaid eSIM loses its validity after ten months without a top-up. Vodafone's operators in Portugal, Hungary, Egypt and Qatar run their own eSIM services for their customers.
AviaeSIM's prepaid Italy eSIM needs neither document: pay by card, receive the QR code by email in minutes, install before the flight and connect in Rome with no tax code. Its Egypt and Qatar plans run on Vodafone, and its Portugal, Hungary and Vatican plans list Vodafone among the local networks on the plan card.

Vodafone Italy runs 4G nationwide and 5G in the major cities — Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence, Turin, Venice — and along the A1 and the high-speed rail lines; the coverage in the Alps and on the islands is on par with TIM. Vodafone Portugal, Vodafone Hungary (now One), Vodafone Egypt and Vodafone Qatar each run strong 4G/5G in their markets. AviaeSIM's Egypt and Qatar eSIMs connect to Vodafone, while its Portugal, Hungary and Vatican plans list Vodafone alongside other local networks — the plan card names them.
Vodafone Italy is one of the two premium networks in the country with TIM, rated highly for speed in independent tests, and its prepaid eSIM is cheap at €1. The friction is Italian SIM registration: every activation, in store or online, needs a valid identity document and the Tessera Sanitaria with the codice fiscale, which most visitors do not have, and Italian comparison sites say a prepaid eSIM lapses after ten months without a top-up. That is the gap a travel eSIM fills.
- Prepaid eSIM for €1 with a new activation in Italy
- QR card in store or a personal link by email online; the QR code is also in the Fai da Te area
- 5G in Italy's main cities and along the high-speed rail lines
- Identity document plus Italian tax code required to activate — a barrier for visitors
- €10 to convert an existing SIM; the prepaid eSIM lapses after ten months without a top-up
- Each Vodafone country is a separate operator with its own prices and rules

Vodafone eSIM?
Vodafone?
Vodafone?
